The Gaia awarded Antoine Simonin has passed away

Temps de lecture : < 1 minute

In 2025, he would have celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of his Gaïa Award. The “Great Watchmaker” has decided otherwise… Our sincere sympathy goes out to his family and friends. Condolences…

Time is your Legacy
and your Legacy is beyond Time

The same year Antoine Simonin received his award for “Entrepreneurship“, he walked the stage with Michel Parmigiani and Ludwig Oechslin, who won in the “Craftsmanship and Creation” and “History and Research” categories respectively. This was in 1995, two years after the Gaïa Prize was created by Catherine Cardinale, then curator of the MIH, the International Watchmaking Museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Official media partner of the Gaïa Prize, the international watchmaking magazine Watchonista, features his biography

The Wostep Foundation, the mythical school of which he was director and through which countless watchmakers have graduated, has just paid tribute to him on Linkedin. This is how I heard about this sad news on 20 May 2024 and, on behalf of the entire editorial team, I express my deepest sympathy to his family. RIP, Antoine.
