{First published on June 29, 2009} The latest issue of Watch Around is a qualitative digest of trendy articles, with a knowledge that would make any self-respecting watchmaking publication pale in comparison. Notwithstanding those who predicted it would die, arguing that the crisis might have hit it harder than any other…
Seventh edition, 007 -my name is…- and… a premiere. Instead of the usual drawing on the cover, it is now a picture on the front page. It is a picture of an escapement wheel and its balance spring. It’s a change, and it’s enough to make these lines appear. Suddenly, tempted by the wish to browse the website, I typed what was logical for me: watcharound.ch (without Google or any other search engine). And there, surprise! I realized that a prominent journalist, also linked to a trade magazine (about swiss machinery market), had been there: indeed, the address redirects to his personal website. Did he buy this address before Jean-Philippe Arm’s magazine appeared on the scene? Or did he take advantage of a convenient gap, granting himself in a counterfeit way, the visits that honest Internet users, passionate about real watchmaking, try to do. In any case, the right address is enriched with a dash.
And if the gentleman in question is reading these lines, please get rid of this address. Because even if it was earlier, Watch Around the magazine, now has enough notoriety to deserve to inherit it.
Update 2020: The magazine’s current address is https://www.watch-around.swiss
