Pilo & Co Geneva: how it started…

Temps de lecture : 2 minutes

{Published on March 11, 2007} Born the 11.11. of 2001, the brand which is distributed in about forty stores in Switzerland, has infiltrated Lebanon and the Middle East in the middle of quite busy storefronts. Also in China more recently. Altogether about twenty markets, including a successful ‘coming up’ in Malaysia.

Operating in this industry for 14 years, Amarildo Pilo has designed six collections in three years. His visible pendulums make him stand out and have earned him the nickname “King of the Fixed Tourbillon” in the media. Since then, for a touch of fun, his brand has come up with a rare model of this sought-after complication. Excerpts from an express interview with Amarildo Pilo, published in Gold’Or magazine and produced for the BIHP by Joël A. Grandjean.

What did you dream of becoming as a child?
Economist, like my father. Doing exactly what he did: diplomat, working in Economy and Trade. In fact, on the selling side, my goal is reached, only the target is different… I also added the creative dimension.

The watch industry in the last ten years…
New designs, the rise of complications and high-end products. We feel like we know where we’re going. Before 1990, few brands, always the same ones, shared the Swiss watchmaking game. There have been new ones, from renowned watchmakers. The range is increasing everywhere. The prestige of ‘Swiss made’ is unique when compared to anything else.

Which opportunities do you see for this industry in the future?
Swiss watchmaking has been able to translate into marketing language the fact that in terms of know-how and complications, the world reference remains in Switzerland. If some monopolies were broken and newcomers were allowed to enter, the industry could continue to evolve, and not only in the high-end segment.

Have you got a favourite item or keepsake?
Rather a number that follows me, the 11: place of residence, car plates… It seems that this number accompanies me, dates of birth, meetings, etc… Before it was only random, since I realized it, I try to integrate it in my choices….
