The ‘No Brand’ trend: under pressure, the Commergnat mystery

Temps de lecture : < 1 minute

Appeared in the Journal Suisse d’Horlogerie JSH®. This ” golden fingers ” watchmaker has released his “Level One” in the most discrete way. This is the ultimate “no-brand” embodiment that, under constraint, nevertheless lives up to his name.

World premiere in watchmaking: quarters indication. Level One, by Nicolas Commergnat: extreme simplicity, essential functionality, three hands, hours, minutes and central seconds. Manual winding using the Crown

Under pressure from collectors, this “golden fingers” – the man who manipulates the world’s rarest and most exceptional watches for repair or overhaul at Phillips auctions – has just cracked. Nicolas Commergnat has designed and manufactured a rare timepiece, the vessel for a unique philosophy based on the concept of ” repairable in 50 years”. Each component has its own identity card, delivered with the watch as digital data on the blockchain!

Yet he has already pre-sold everything in the restricted world of leading collectors and merchants. Everything, or almost everything, since there are already waiting lists for the delivery of this Level One and for the next projects. Level 2, Level 3? Time will tell what happens next with this ‘no-brand’.

Manufacture FM01 movement, first use in watchmaking fully manufactured and machined in-house. The development of this movement has a logic for a sustainable solution, NIHS transmission and escapement assortments, universality of assembly, repairability with no time limit. 28,800 vibrations/hour (4 Hertz). Côtes de Genève decorations, according to the 7 côtes in homage to the 7 eagle feathers of the Geneva flag. Micro-pearling of the platinum above and below

The cherry on the cake is a new dial indication…. Once upon a time, excellence and authenticity married to give birth to a brilliant watchmaker: there’s some Journe under his golden fingers, some Derek Pratt, perhaps a touch of Dufour or Daniels. In other words, the next generation of independents, in all its quintessential essence…
