Weekly magazine Paris Match: Watches that don’t run round

Temps de lecture : < 1 minute

The internationally renowned weekly magazine Paris-Match invites the independent news agency TàG Press +41 to sign a horological feature on 02 December 2021. The topic is specified: timepieces that challenge their roundness. Meaning, watches with other than circular shapes. Focus on five independent watchmakers. Subscribe (only in French) to Paris-Match.

Circular is the way to read the time! And ‘clockwise’ seems to be universally adopted, except by newer generations who are born and grow up with nothing on their wrists.

The history of watchmaking is full of designs that break away from the standard round shape to explore some quadratures of the circle or some asymmetries. The most daring? Hamilton and its triangular Men in Black, the oval of the Reine de Naples (Breguet), the square-rectangles of the Tank and the Reverso, aka Cartier and Jaeger LeCoultre. More recently, the tonneau shape has been reincarnated in contemporary breakthroughs, Franck Muller and Richard Mille.  Any other leads? Let’s visit some independent brands.
